Overview:
The Catholic Chaplaincy at York University (CCY) is seeking a full time Campus Minister to complement the leadership of the Chaplain, fulfilling the mission of Chaplaincy in various areas, such as outreach, evangelization, faith formation, and administration while providing a warm and inviting environment for students and all those who visit the Chaplaincy.
Responsibilities:
Campus Ministry Programming
- Faith study leadership o Lead all faith studies as required
o Assume responsibility for assigned faith study groups and provide mentorship and support - Women’s ministry coordination o Develop and deliver programs to foster faith, growth, and maturity, allowing students to come into the fullness of the identity to which God has called them
o Promote and support student leadership by facilitating large and small group discussions
o Provide one-on-one pastoral care and peer mentorship to students and community - Formation and spiritual development o Assess students’ understanding of the faith through various means
o Research, develop and run programs that address the current needs of students in faith formation - Vocations coordinator – provide students with opportunities to explore vocational discernment
- RCIA coordinator – plan and facilitate the program of RCIA formation
Outreach and Relationship Building
- Ministry of presence – engage students intentionally through one-on-one peer mentoring and online activities
- Work collaboratively with the CCY student executive
Administration and Communication
- Bookkeeping and financial processes
o Plan and implement yearly budget in collaboration with the Chaplain
o Manage all financial responsibilities including record keeping, deposits, etc.
o Track budget and prepare financial reports - Receptionist tasks – respond to email and phone messages in a timely manner on behalf of CCY
- Participate collaboratively in regular staff meetings
- Food and hospitality ministry – plan and coordinate the hospitality component of all events requiring food
- Retreat coordinator – liaise with retreat facility, speakers and guests and complete all other administrative tasks related to retreats
- Sacristan – order all necessary supplies and oversee set up for Mass and devotional events
Collaboration and Professional Development
- Attend Archdiocesan campus ministry meetings and events to represent CCY
- Work collaboratively with other campus ministries and Archdiocesan groups
- Maintain membership in Canadian Catholic Campus Ministry (CCCM) and participate in its events as appropriate
- Pursue ongoing professional development
- Other duties, as required
General Requirements:
- Post-Secondary degree or diploma with related experience
- 2-5 years experience in ministry (youth, young adult or campus ministry is preferred)
- Active in Catholic faith practice
- Knowledge of the personal and spiritual needs of university and college students and the ability to relate well to them
- Mature judgment and professionalism
- Strong organization, planning, time management and decision-making skills
- Excellent interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively as a collaborative team member
- Flexibility in work scheduling including evenings and weekends when required
- Strong technical skills (including MS Office 365 and MS Teams) and adept at using social media
- Understanding of the Catholic Church, its tenets and culture, and respect for its leadership and parish clergy
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- A criminal background check will be required of the successful applicant
