Mary Centre is acting as an agent on behalf of the family.
We are seeking a caring and stable household — a family, couple, or single individual — to share life with Tyler, a kind and gentle man with a developmental disability, on a beautiful 100-acre farm in Erin, Ontario. This is a unique cooperative living arrangement where caregivers will live in the main farmhouse with Tyler, while his father Gary resides in a separate apartment on the property. Over time, you will become part of Tyler’s extended family, ensuring he continues to experience stability, dignity, and belonging.
About the Role
At first, you will share caregiving responsibilities with Gary as he helps you learn Tyler’s routines, preferences, and daily rhythms. Gradually, you’ll take on more responsibility as Tyler’s primary support — allowing Gary to step back with confidence, knowing his son is well cared for.
Your role will include:
- Preparing and sharing meals with Tyler
- Supporting him with personal hygiene and mobility
- Accompanying him to medical appointments and social activities
- Encouraging independence and inclusion in daily family life
- Maintaining a warm, respectful, and safe household environment where Tyler feels truly at home
You’ll also have the opportunity to spend the winter months in Costa Rica, continuing the same care and household routines in their second home.
What You Bring
You bring heart, patience, and reliability. You value inclusion, stability, and meaningful relationships.
You:
- Are willing to learn and follow the established rhythm of life that Tyler and Gary share
- Are ready to commit to a long-term caregiving relationship
- Have common sense, empathy, and consistency — more important than formal experience
- Hold a driver’s license and are comfortable with rural living
(Experience with developmental disabilities is an asset but not required)
Duration
There will be a settling-in period to ensure the fit is right for both Tyler and the caregiving household. During this time, you’ll have the chance to build trust, learn routines, and make sure the arrangement feels comfortable for everyone. After that, the expectation is for a long-term commitment — to live with and support Tyler for the remainder of his life, providing him with the stability, belonging, and continuity he deserves.
What’s Provided
You’ll be part of a home and community, not just a workplace.
- Rent-free accommodation in a fully renovated farmhouse on a 100-acre property
- All living expenses and utilities covered
- Generous per diem for your caregiving commitment
- Vehicle provided for appointments and household needs
- Regular respite to support balance and rest
- Orientation and ongoing support to ensure a smooth transition
- A warm handover period as Gary gradually transfers caregiving responsibilities to you.
Requirements
- References and a vulnerable sector check
- Willingness to engage in a gradual transition process
- Commitment to building a long-term, family-style relationship with Tyler.
A Meaningful Life Together
