YOUTH MINISTER – St. John the Evangelist Parish

Overview:
St. John the Evangelist Parish is seeking a Modified Full-Time Youth Minister to who will report to the Pastor, to work with parish staff, volunteers, school administrators, teachers, parents and children to oversee youth ministry at the parish and develop/facilitate programmes which support a comprehensive vision of youth involvement in assistance and support in promoting and running the youth ministry programmes.

This is a temporary position to cover a maternity leave from June 1, 2026 for 1 year.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and direct youth ministry for children in grades 6-8 (EDGE) and high school youth
    (LIFETEEN) by providing strong catechetical and social components in the weekly sessions
  • Discuss topics relevant to today’s youth and address contemporary issues from a Catholic
    perspective
  • Develop a team of parish volunteers to assist with ministry to youth and continue to recruit and train
    new volunteers
  • Visit Catholic elementary and secondary schools to develop healthy relationships with students and
    staff
  • Prepare and run one retreat per year for EDGE and LIFETEEN participants
  • Prepare, organize and run Totus Tuus summer camp
  • Foster an environment that supports youth ministry across parish ministries (e.g. coordinate youth
    involvement with Thanksgiving and Christmas food drives, Feed the Hungry, and outreach to parish
    nursing homes)
  • Help and support Children’s Liturgy in our parish
  • Develop social media outlets and networking options to enhance communication with youth and
    their families
  • Encourage parish youth to take part in Catholic youth conferences (e.g. Steubenville) and other
    events which will strengthen their faith and build relationships with youth from neighbouring
    parishes and other regions of the Archdiocese of Toronto
  • Oversee the development and usage of the parish youth ministry budget
  • Other duties, as required

General Requirements:

College or university degree or equivalent formation/training suited to the work required for this
position

  • Previous leadership experience in youth ministry (EDGE, LIFETEEN, OCY Summer Camp, Totus
    Tuus) will be definite assets
  • In communion with the Catholic Church and actively practising the Catholic faith
  • A good understanding and acceptance of Catholic Church teaching
  • A mature spiritual life
  • Respect for Church leadership as well as parish clergy
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively as a member of the parish staff
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and
  • PowerPoint as well as web navigation and social media
  • Able to work during the day, evenings and weekends as necessary
  • Clear driver’s abstract
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • A criminal background check will be required of the successful applicant
